The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that occurred earlier this morning in front of 245 W. Hively Ave, Elkhart, in which multiple individuals were involved. One individual sustained non-life threatening injuries and was subsequently taken into custody.

The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a serious bodily injury motorcycle and semi-truck crash that the evening of August 20, 2026, at S Main St (US Highway 33) and US Highway 20, Elkhart.

Mayor Rod Roberson swore in two (2) new Elkhart Police Officers during this morning’s Police Merit Commission Meeting. The hiring of these officers brings the department’s staff to one hundred and thirty (130) of the budgeted one hundred and forty-three (143) officers.

On July 21, 2026, a male suspect in an allegedly stolen vehicle fleeing from Elkhart Police Department officers on Co Rd 11/Osolo Rd crashed into a house in the 900 block of Osolo Rd. The suspect was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life threatening injuries and remains in custody.

The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a shooting with potentially life-threatening injuries that occurred in the evening of July 21, 2026, in the 400 block of State St, Elkhart.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating after a sleeping 2-year-old was injured when gunfire struck her house on June 23, 2026 (1000 block of W. Garfield Ave, Elkhart). Due to the nature of the crime and the severity of the little girl’s injuries, the Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated and has now taken over the investigation. The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a serious bodily injury car vs. motorcycle crash that occurred on 6/19/26 on Co Rd 6 near Johnson St. The motorcycle driver was taken for medical treatment.

The Elkhart Police Department is investigating a fatal car vs. pedestrian crash that occurred late on 6/18/26 in the 3300 block of S Nappanee St, Elkhart. Initial investigation indicates that a car struck a woman and her 2-year-old child who were crossing the street. Sadly, the 28-year-old mother died from her injuries. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
