What We Do

Great policing isn’t just about being tough on crime – it’s about building relationships, bridges, and bonds between our men and women in blue and our community. In addition to keeping our streets safe, the Elkhart Police Department engages with the people we aim to protect and serve through community events such as National Night Out, Trunk-or-Treats, and community outreach nights. We are always looking for ways to improve our relationship with the good men and women of our city to move forward toward our vision of a crime-free Elkhart.

Mission Statement

The Elkhart Police Department is committed to partnering with our community to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against abuse or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice. Through service, protection, knowledge, developing community relationships, and upholding the law we are dedicated to reducing crime, increasing safety, and enhancing the quality of life for all of Elkhart’s citizens and visitors.
