News Release-Suspect Charged with Multiple Felonies, Misdemeanors After Fleeing in Stolen Vehicle, 11.5.26

Yesterday the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office charged a male suspect with nine (9) total felonies and misdemeanors after he fled from Elkhart Police Department officers on October 30, 2026, in a stolen vehicle.

On October 30, 2026, at about 5:19 p.m., an Elkhart Police Department patrol officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Cassopolis St/Bristol Street on a Dodge Stratus that had been reported stolen out of Goshen. The male driver of the Dodge ignored the officer’s emergency lights and siren and fled westbound on Bristol St at a high rate of speed.

Other EPD officers assisted with the pursuit and blocked intersections along the route to help reduce the risk to other motorists. During the pursuit, the Dodge allegedly traveled at high speeds on main roads and through residential neighborhoods, disregarding multiple stop signs. The Dodge also allegedly disregarded the traffic light at Cassopolis St/Emerson St while traveling north on Cassopolis St at a high rate of speed. The Dodge continued fleeing, eventually continuing east on M-205 before it lost control at the roundabout at Five Points Rd, Edwardsburg, MI, disabling the vehicle.

The male driver exited the vehicle and ran on foot, ignoring officer commands, before he was apprehended and taken into custody at approximately 5:32 p.m. During the investigation, officers learned that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and only possessed a regular ID card with a status of suspended-prior. He also exhibited signs of potential impairment or intoxication. Officers located marijuana inside the vehicle, as well as drug paraphernalia, pills, methamphetamine, and cocaine. During the stop officers learned that he had multiple outstanding warrants out of Marion County and St. Joseph County (MI) as well as a parole violation warrant.

Medics transported the driver to the hospital for medical clearance as he complained of pain. An EPD officer applied for, and obtained, a judicial blood draw search warrant, which was executed at the hospital; results are pending. While at the hospital, the driver allegedly threatened an officer and his family.

The driver, identified as Anthony D. Jones, Jr., 44 years old of Indianapolis, was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges in connection with this investigation as well as on his outstanding warrants. The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office subsequently charged Jones in Elkhart Circuit Court (case no. 20C01-2611-F5-000254) with:

Count I: Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 5 Felony

Count II: Auto Theft, a Level 6 Felony

Count III: Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony

Count IV: Possession of Cocaine, a Level 6 Felony

Count V: Unlawful Possession or Use of a Legend Drug, a Level 6 Felony

Count VI: Unlawful Possession or Use of a Legend Drug, a Level 6 Felony

Count VII: Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony

Count VIII: Driving while Suspended-Prior, a Class A Misdemeanor

Count IX: Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated, a Class C Misdemeanor

An Elkhart County magistrate previously set his bond in this case at $100,000 surety/10% cash. At last information he remained in the custody of the Elkhart County Jail. Please be advised that these are merely accusations and that under Indiana law an individual is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
