Employment Verification

The Human Resources Department processes all employment verification requests for current and former City of Elkhart employees. To maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, the City requires a valid release of information before providing any employment-related details.

How to Submit a Verification Request

Verification requests must be directed to Human Resources and may be submitted in one of the following ways:

Required Documentation

All requests must include:

• A signed authorization form from the employee or former employee
• The requesting organization’s contact information
• Details outlining the specific information needed (e.g., dates of employment, job title, salary verification)

Requests without a signed release will not be processed.

Processing Time

HR processes verification requests as promptly as possible. Standard turnaround time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on the volume of requests and the level of detail required. If additional details or clarification are needed, HR will contact the requesting party directly.

Important Notes

• The City of Elkhart only provides factual employment information.
• Character references or performance-related statements are not included in verification responses.
• Public safety departments may have additional verification requirements; HR will coordinate as needed.
