UPDATE: Shooting Investigation, Links Dr., 4.27.26

UPDATE, 9:43 p.m.: At approximately 3:44 p.m., Elkhart County SWAT deployed to a house in the 28000 block of Golden Pond Trail, Elkhart, to assist the Elkhart County Homicide Unit with an attempt to locate a potential suspect in this afternoon’s shooting (2500 block of Links Dr, Elkhart). A house fire had already been reported at this location. Local fire departments extinguished the fire. After the fire was extinguished, officers located a body inside the house. At this time, official identification of the body has not been made. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate the fatal shooting on Links Dr as well as the body found at the Golden Pond Trail address. At this time, there is not believed to be an ongoing threat to the public.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating a shooting that occurred earlier today in the 2500 block of Links Dr.

Today, April 27, 2026, at approximately 1:54 p.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received 911 calls reporting a shooting with injuries in the area of Links Dr and Troon Ct. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders were dispatched and arrived in the area shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim with an apparent gunshot wound lying outside and a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound(s) inside an apartment at 2515 Links Dr. Elkhart Fire Department medics rendered first aid at the scene. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the female victim was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of her injuries.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and is handling this investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made and this remains an ongoing investigation.
