NEWS RELEASE UPDATE: Elkhart County Homicide Unit Investigating Shooting with Three People Injured, W High St, 5.2.26

UPDATE, 5.2.26 at 9:20 a.m.: The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating a shooting that occurred earlier this morning in which three people were injured, one of whom sustained life-threatening injuries.

Today, May 2, 2026, at about 1:15 a.m., an Elkhart Police Department officer on patrol called the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center to report the sounds of gunfire in the area of 299 S 2nd St/W High St. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders were dispatched and arrived in the area shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, the officer located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound outside near an alleyway. This officer and a second officer administered life-saving measures to the victim at the scene. Elkhart City Fire Department Medics also administered life-saving measures and transported the 20-year-old man to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious and life-threatening injuries.

While on this call two additional male gunshot wound walk-in victims (22-years-old and 21-years-old) presented at the hospital, where at last information they were being evaluated and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and is handling the shooting investigation. At this time no arrests have been made, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Elkhart Police Department continues to actively investigate an early morning shooting in which three people were injured near 110 W High St, Elkhart.

Today, May 2, 2026, at about 1:15 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call of a shooting with injuries in the area of 299 S 2nd St/W High St. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders were dispatched and arrived in the area shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound outside. First aid was administered at the scene and medics transported him to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

While on this call two additional male gunshot wound walk-in victims presented at the hospital, where at last information they were being evaluated and treated for their injuries.

These are early stages of the investigation. At this time no arrests have been made, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation.
