News Release-Brief Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends in Crash on Osolo Rd, Arrest Made, 7.21.26

Earlier today a brief pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended after the vehicle crashed into a home in the 900 block of Osolo Rd, Elkhart.

Today, July 21, 2026, at about 12:25 p.m., a man called 911 to report that a male suspect stole his Chevy Tahoe from the 900 block of Grove St, Elkhart. The caller had placed an AirTag in the vehicle and was able to provide vehicle location updates to dispatchers. An Elkhart Police Department officer located the suspect vehicle at a gas station near Co Rd 6 E and Co Rd 11 and prepared to set up a felony stop of the vehicle. The Tahoe fled the gas station before officers could set up the felony stop and began traveling southbound on Co Rd 11. The vehicle passed officers traveling to the felony stop, and a brief pursuit ensued.

An EPD officer deployed stop sticks near Parke Pl and Co Rd 11/Osolo Rd, which were successful in disabling at least one of the Tahoe’s tires. Shortly thereafter the Tahoe crashed into a home in the 900 block of Osolo Rd and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Fire Department medics rendered first aid to the suspect driver (a man in his early 50’s) at the scene. Medics transported him to Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. He currently remains in custody.

The unoccupied house sustained what appeared to be non-structural damage. There were no other passengers inside the Tahoe, and no other injuries were reported from this incident. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the crash reconstruction and crash investigation. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit also provided some assistance at the scene. Elkhart Police Department detectives are currently investigating and will be forwarding this case to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review. We will provide further information as we are able to do so.
