A severe wind event has caused damage throughout the City of Elkhart, resulting in widespread power outages and debris throughout the community. Residents are urged to use caution while traveling. If a traffic signal is not functioning, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Downed power lines should be reported directly to AEP at: https://www.aep.com/customer-service/outage/. There is no charge for reporting a downed power line.

News Release-Suspect Arrested and Charged with Three Felony Counts of Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material After Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Investigation, 6.12.26

 

The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office has charged an Elkhart man with three felony Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material counts after the Elkhart Police Department arrested him as part of an Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigation.

An Elkhart Police Department officer and member of the Elkhart Police Department Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received and reviewed an ICAC tip of possible child sex abuse material connected with IP addresses in this area. After further investigation, an EPD officer applied for and obtained a residential search warrant for electronic devices at an apartment in the 300 block of Wagner Ave, Elkhart. On June 9, 2026, Elkhart Police Department officers executed the search warrant at this residence. Officers arrested Rene Rodriguez, 59 years old, on June 9th and booked him into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges in connection with this investigation.

The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office subsequently filed formal criminal charges against him in Elkhart Superior Court (case no. 20D03-2606-F5-000138). Rene Rodriguez was charged with one count of Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material with Aggravating Factor, a Level 5 Felony, and two counts of Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material, each a Level 6 Felony.

An Elkhart County judicial officer previously set his bond at $100,000 surety. At last information he remained in the Elkhart County Jail. Please be advised that under Indiana law an individual is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
