News Release-EPD Responds to Call of Deceased Individual in a Vehicle; No Foul Play Suspected, 8.31.26
Earlier today, Elkhart Police Department Officers responded to a call reporting a possibly deceased man in a parked vehicle at 110 Northpointe Dr. There was no indication of foul play, and the Elkhart County Homicide Unit is not handling the investigation.
Today, August 31, 2026, at about 1:15 p.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 phone call reporting that a man in a parked, locked Ford F350 at 110 Northpointe Dr (Cracker Barrel) was possibly deceased. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders arrived on scene and confirmed that a 60-year-old man inside the vehicle was already deceased. Initial investigation indicates that the business called the transportation company that owned the vehicle because it had been parked in the parking lot for over a week. During the call, an EPD supervisor did contact the Elkhart Homicide Unit to make it aware of the situation. However, at this time, there is no indication of foul play, and it is not a Homicide Unit investigation. The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office was also contacted and will be handling the death investigation.
