News Release-EPD Officer Arrested by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, 7.6.26

 

An Elkhart Police Department officer was arrested today by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office following an off-duty incident.

We have been informed that Cpl Tyler Koeppel, 30 years old, was arrested by detectives with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office earlier this afternoon on two preliminary misdemeanor counts of Invasion of Privacy.

Koeppel is currently being held at the Elkhart County Corrections Facility, and this matter will be forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.

At the time of this incident, Koeppel was on administrative leave. He was previously placed on paid administrative leave on June 30, 2026, pending the outcome of an investigation by an outside law enforcement agency and EPD’s Professional Standards division. He will remain on leave pending further criminal and internal investigations. Koeppel was sworn in as an Elkhart Police Department officer in 2022.

Please be advised that under Indiana law an individual is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
