News Release-Elkhart Police Department Investigating Car vs. Moped Crash, E Bristol St, 7.8.26
The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a serious bodily injury crash that occurred earlier this morning on E. Bristol St, Elkhart.
Today, July 8, 2026, at about 4:32 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a vehicle and moped crash with injuries near 599 E Bristol St/Garden St. Elkhart City Police officers and first responders dispatched and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. Initial investigation indicates a Chevy Silverado traveling eastbound on E Bristol St struck the rear of a moped that was also traveling eastbound. Elkhart Fire Department medics rendered first aid at the scene and transported the 46-year-old male moped driver to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious bodily injuries. We do not have an update on his condition at the issuance of this release.
The 42-year-old male Silverado driver was uninjured. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The Elkhart Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team was activated, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation. We will provide further details as we are able to do so.
