News Release-Elkhart Police Department Investigating Motorcycle vs. Semi Crash with Serious Bodily Injury, S Main St and US Hwy 20, 8.21.26
The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a serious bodily injury motorcycle and semi-truck crash that occurred yesterday evening at S Main St (US Highway 33) and US Highway 20, Elkhart.
Yesterday, August 20, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a semi-truck vs. motorcycle crash with injuries near S Main St (US Highway 33) and US Highway 20. Elkhart City Police officers and first responders dispatched and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. Initial investigation indicates that the semi was traveling northbound on S. Main St. and was attempting to turn left onto the westbound U.S. Highway 20 ramp when a southbound motorcycle crashed into the semi. Elkhart Fire Department medics rendered first aid at the scene and transported the 26-year-old male motorcycle driver to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious bodily injuries. At last information he was in critical condition.
The 41-year-old male semi driver was uninjured. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The Elkhart Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team was activated, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation. We will provide further details as we are able to do so.
