News Release-EPD Investigating Early Morning Shooting, Search Warrant Executed, 9.7.26

The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating an early-morning shooting in which two people sustained non-life threatening injuries.

This morning, September 7, 2026, at about 12:05 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the sounds of gunfire near Main St/Simonton St. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders dispatched and arrived in the area shortly thereafter. While investigating, a walk-in gunshot wound victim (a 19-year-old male) arrived at Elkhart General Hospital. Later this morning, a second walk-in gunshot wound victim (a 19-year-old male) also arrived at a second local hospital, and it is believed that the two are related. Both victims sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

As part of this investigation, Elkhart County Regional SWAT executed a search warrant on behalf of EPD detectives at a residence in the 200 block of W Simonton St, Elkhart.
