News Release-EPD Investigating After 911 Call Reporting Bomb, No Threats Found, 9.15.26

Elkhart Police Officers are investigating after a 911 call reported a possible bomb threat in the Elkhart High School Freshman Division parking lot. No bomb was located, and initial investigation indicates that this was not a credible threat.

Today, September 15, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call from an individual claiming to be a student. The caller reported that a juvenile male sent her a text saying he was in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Elkhart High School Freshman Division (1 Blazer Blvd) with a gun and a bomb.  Elkhart Police Department officers were dispatched to the area and arrived shortly thereafter. The Freshman Division and other ECS schools were placed on lockdown while officers investigated. Officers searched and cleared the Freshman Division parking lot and school and did not locate anything abnormal or that matched the caller’s description.

Out of an abundance of caution, EPD officers also searched and cleared Elkhart High School’s parking lot and school (2608 California Rd) and North Side Middle School’s parking lot and gym (300 Lawrence St). EPD officers determined that there was no immediate threat and ECS lifted the lockdowns. Although the investigation remains ongoing, the claims made in the 911 call were unsubstantiated, and there is currently no indication that a credible threat existed. We will update the public with more information as we are able to do so.
