News Release-Elkhart County Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting, Pierre Moran Dr., 9.7.26

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this afternoon in the 300 block of Pierre Moran Dr, Elkhart.

Earlier today, September 7, 2026, at about 11:38 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting with injuries in the 300 block of Pierre Moran Dr. Elkhart Police Department officers and other first responders dispatched to the area and arrived shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, officers located a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence. EPD officers rendered first aid until Elkhart Fire Department medics took over at the scene. Medics transported the woman to the hospital, where she sadly died from her injuries. She has been identified as Jessica Martinez, 21 years old of Elkhart.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and is handling the shooting investigation. Homicide Unit detectives arrested a 17-year-old male on a preliminary charge of Reckless Homicide in connection with this investigation and transported him to the Juvenile Detention Center. This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public.
