EPD Investigating Shooting with Injuries, 500 blk Virginia St

News Release-EPD Investigating Shooting, 500 block of Virginia St, 2.21.26

The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a shooting with injuries that occurred earlier this morning in the 500 block of Viriginia St, Elkhart.

This morning, February 21, 2026, at about 3:06 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call of a shooting with injuries in the 500 block of Virginia St. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders dispatched and arrived to the area shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, officers located a 20-year-old male with apparent gunshot wound(s) in an apartment. Officers administered first aid at the scene. Elkhart Fire Department medics transported him to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. His current condition is unknown.

Officers collected evidence at the scene. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made. We will release more information as we are able to do so.
