Elkhart Police Department Actively Investigating Shooting with Injuries
The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a shooting with injuries that occurred earlier this afternoon near N 6th St and W Jefferson St.
Today, February 9, 2026, at about 4:01 p.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call of a shooting with injuries near the intersection of N 6th St and W Jefferson St. Elkhart Police Department officers dispatched and arrived shortly thereafter. Initial investigation indicates that a male teenager, 14-years-old, was walking when a vehicle stopped near him. A suspect(s) exited the vehicle and approached him. During their interaction, a suspect(s) shot the juvenile. The suspect(s) got back into the vehicle and drove away before police arrival. Elkhart City Fire Department medics transported the victim to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious injuries. At last information he was in stable condition.
