Elkhart County Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting, 2600 block of Morton Avenue

News Release-Elkhart County Investigating Fatal Shooting, 2600 block of Morton Ave, 3.2.26

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this morning in the 2600 block of Morton Ave, Elkhart.

Today, March 2, 2026, shortly before 8:00 a.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call of a shooting with injuries in the 2600 block of Morton Ave. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders dispatched and arrived shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim with apparent gunshot wound(s) outside a residence. Despite life-saving efforts the victim, a 19-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending family notification.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and is handling this investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made and this remains an ongoing investigation. This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is believed to be no further danger to the public. Anyone with further information can contact the Homicide Unit at 574-295-2825.
