City of Elkhart to Officially Launch Downtown DORA at Art Walk After Dark
ELKHART, Ind. — The City of Elkhart will officially unveil its new Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) tonight during Art Walk After Dark on the Central Green stage at 7:00 p.m.
The DORA was approved by the Elkhart City Council in February 2026 and will allow adults to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating licensed establishments in specially designated DORA cups and enjoy them within clearly marked downtown boundaries during approved hours.
Tonight’s launch marks the first opportunity for residents and visitors to view the official DORA cups and access DORA maps and regulation handouts.
The program is designed to support downtown businesses, encourage walkability, and enhance community events while maintaining strong public safety standards.
“A DORA helps encourage people to spend more time downtown, visit multiple businesses, and enjoy community events,” said Mayor Rod Roberson. “When we host Art Walk Wednesdays, the Grand Prix, Fourth of July celebrations, or Jazz Fest, residents won’t be tied to one establishment. They’ll be able to experience the entire downtown while responsibly enjoying an adult beverage.”
Participating establishments within the DORA will be identified with signage designating one of three participation levels:
- Sold Here
- Welcome Here
- Not Permitted
Residents are encouraged to attend tonight’s Art Walk After Dark event to learn more about the program and experience the launch of Elkhart’s newest downtown initiative.
