Human Relations Commission

The City of Elkhart's Human Relations Commission (HRC) was established on February 15, 1965 and is a 5 member board appointed by the Mayor. The HRC is the local Fair Housing Assistance Program (FHAP) agency that is substantially equivalent to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO). 

This office is responsible for enforcing federal fair housing laws, which prohibit housing discrimination including unimproved real estate on the basis of race, religion, gender, color, disability, familial status, and national origin.
